In today‘s world, the standard has traditionally been set by men, while women have often been treated as a marginal phenomenon. This gender inequality persists across various domains, including homes, workplaces, medicine, and transportation. While certain injustices, like street harassment in the form of catcalling, are publicly visible, many gaps have become so deeply ingrained in our daily lives that they often go unnoticed. Shedding light on these hidden disparities is the core focus of my thesis titled ‚mind the gap“. Mind the gap is a series which consists of short episodes, each created by different designers which vividly depict gender injustices that occur in everyday life

Stay tuned as we continue to uncover hidden inequalities in our everyday lives—one episode at a time! New episodes drop each month on vimeo and instagram @mindthegap_serie .

Did you know that women are 47% more likely to be seriously injured and 17% more likely to be killed in car crashes compared to men? 😳 This alarming statistic is largely due to the lack of female representation in crash testing—specifically, the absence of female crash test dummies, which means safety features are primarily designed with male physiology in mind.
Currently, most crash tests use dummies that reflect an average male body, ignoring the differences in height, weight, and body composition between genders. This oversight leads to inadequate safety measures for women, exposing them to higher risks in real-world scenarios. 🚨
„Mind the Gap“ aims to shine a light on these critical disparities and advocate for a more inclusive approach in automotive design. It’s time to demand that safety standards consider ALL lives, not just half.
